WHAT'S THE PURPOSE?
The purpose of this site is to prove that institutional racism still exists even in the new millennium.
Institutional racism is the oldest form of racism in our country. It stems deep from the moment the declaration of Independence was signed to the moment the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by Lincoln. It also important to note that slavery can be seen as the culprit of institutional racism and in fact, it is the most severe form of institutional racism.
Today, racism is seen through institutions such as housing, education, and even through the government. Minorities, specifically blacks, are negatively treated unequal and are pushed within a society to endure adversities.
We see institutional racism in many forms today, from police brutality specifically against blacks to young black children in a 3rd grade classroom being set-up to not be given the best chance to succeed.
If we look at some of the most prominent civil rights activist, specifically Malcolm X, we can see how the racism that existed institutionally during their time still exists today. We can make solid connections to the past even now. Although we have come a long way from segregation and “Jim Crow”, we still see some of these very “Jim Crowish” ideologies being implemented in our institutions and systems that run our country.
All in all, Today, racism is seen through institutions such as housing, education, and even through the government. Minorities, specifically blacks, are negatively treated unequal and are pushed within a society to endure adversities and be limited to opportunities.
